Inspiration Sparked By Stories
Each year, The Virginia Home hosts Stories of Courage & Grace ™, a fundraiser driven to inspire residents and loved ones through personal stories by one or more celebrity guests, who share his or her story of success despite their hardship or experience.
Since 2011, Stories of Courage & Grace has been held at the Jefferson Hotel in downtown Richmond, Virginia. All proceeds benefit residents of The Virginia Home, who live life with their own special courage and grace.
Stories of Courage & Grace 2025 – An Evening with Jon Dorenbos

Jon Dorenbos is known as an NFL All-Pro and a finalist on America’s Got Talent, but his real story is one of resilience and purpose. At twelve, his father murdered his mother, shattering his idyllic childhood. Thrust into foster care, Jon turned to magic as an escape and later found solace in football, which channeled his pain and anger. Despite facing a life-threatening heart condition in 2017, he chose to bounce back rather than break down.
In his book, Life Is Magic, Jon shares how he transformed tragedy into triumph through lessons of love, forgiveness, and perseverance, inspiring others to talk themselves through life’s darkest moments and find happiness. Join us for an extraordinary and empowering story of resilience, forgiveness, and living a life of purpose in the face of unfathomable obstacles.
