Nora Donohue led The Virginia Home’s physical therapy department for 17 years before retiring in 2013. Even after retirement, she remained a frequent visitor and volunteer, keeping up with friends on Hampton Street.
Nora often reflected on what drew her to The Home: “I worked in many settings before joining the staff at The Home. Soon after starting, I decided that I never wanted to work anywhere else. From my first day, residents were friendly and interested in who I was and what I did.” Nora believed deeply in The Home’s mission, noting that its services were “much more comprehensive than those available in other settings” and made possible by the generosity of others.
She carried that commitment into her estate planning, becoming a proud member of The 1894 Society: “Belonging to The 1894 Society is my way of keeping myself walking alongside The Home’s residents and staff from now on. The more resources The Home can rely on, the more it can focus creatively on making life better for residents, and for others with severe disabilities, too.”
Nora passed away in 2023, and her life and work left a lasting mark on The Virginia Home. Her generosity ensures that her care, compassion, and advocacy for residents will continue for years to come.
