Volunteer and help change lives
The Virginia Home is not simply where people live, it’s where people make a life. And you can help through contributions and volunteer service that allows us to create a wonderful life for wonderful people, every day.
Volunteers are the heart of The Virginia Home. They are our governing Board of Trustees, the Junior Board, and are made up of individuals, family members, schools, businesses, and organizations that give their time and talents to better the lives of residents.
Volunteer Requirements
Volunteers are a vital part of our community, offering essential support and compassionate care to our 130 residents. We appreciate your interest in making a difference. Before submitting your application, please review the following guidelines:
- Minimum Age: Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Those under 16 may volunteer only if accompanied by a parent or guardian.
- Weekend/Evening Shifts: These shifts are reserved for experienced volunteers. If you wish to volunteer on weekends or after 5:00 p.m., you must first complete a minimum of six supervised training hours during regular business hours.
- Program-Specific Training: Some volunteer roles may require additional training based on the nature of the program.
- Health Requirements: Volunteers must provide proof of a current (negative) TB test. Testing can be administered by TVH staff, a Medi-Clinic or your personal physician.
- Vaccinations: A current flu vaccination is required.
- Background Check: All volunteers must successfully complete a criminal background check
