People who become involved with The Virginia Home tend to stay involved. Vonnie Stoneburner is proof of that. Since joining The Home’s Junior Board in 1988, Vonnie has worked on a fashion show and a home show, two long-time Junior Board projects. Vonnie spent the intervening years teaching school and raising a family, but always kept The Home in mind, and joined the Board of Trustees in 2011.
“Many of the people I remembered from my time on the Junior Board are still active, taking residents on shopping trips, celebrating holidays like Valentine’s Day with their friends at The Home, or just visiting and spending time with residents.
“The Home has made so many wonderful changes since my younger years when I participated in service projects as a teenager there. The renovation and expansion in 2003 has made the building brighter and cheerier. The fact that The Home now has a pool used for therapy is truly amazing and so important to the wellness of the residents.”
Vonnie’s family and her interest in The Home intersected several years ago, when she and her husband Frank updated their wills. “We included The Home at that time, and will update this provision as time goes on.
“Remembering The Home this way is the best way I can think of to make my connection to this place permanent.“
