SHOOTING FOR THE STARS
Several years ago, Beth Vaughan was invited to a photo shoot at the Science Museum of Virginia’s Dome digital planetarium theater. The visit would prove to be prophetic.
After the pandemic passed, Beth began looking for a job. Eventually, she realized that her desire to work was less about making money and more about being a part of the community.
She decided to volunteer instead. An opportunity arose for Beth to volunteer at the Dome theater — the place she had thoroughly enjoyed visiting a few years prior.
With the help of her social worker, museum staff, and her biggest supporter — her father — the perfect position was tailored for Beth.
Today, she has a job she loves (plus a front-row seat for all the Dome theater presentations)! She says that volunteering at the museum has opened a new world to her, given her a sense of purpose and boosted her self-esteem. “I think this experience has really helped me,” she says. “It has enriched my life, and I hope that people will be inspired by my story.”
Beth’s journey is proof that believing in yourself and never giving up can lead to brand-new horizons.
