When Nicole moved into The Virginia Home in February 2025, Beth and Bob hoped she would find a place where she could thrive. They quickly realized they had found much more than that. “It has been nothing but wonderful experiences for her,” Beth says. “The staff is outstanding, and Nicole is so happy. She loves the activities she participates in. “Before Nicole became a resident, her parents worked hard to adapt their home to meet her needs. “We put on an addition, so she didn’t have to go upstairs,” Beth explains. “We made a lot of changes to the house. “Even with those modifications, opportunities for engagement were limited. “There weren’t a lot of activities for her to do,” Bob says. “She spent a lot of time by herself or with an attendant.
“Today, Nicole enjoys something her parents always wanted for her: the opportunity to connect with others and live a fuller life.”Being at The Virginia Home gives her a chance to engage with other people and have a much better quality of life,” Beth says. The family’s journey to The Virginia Home began with Nicole’s twin sister, who lives in Richmond and introduced them to the organization.
Now, Beth and Bob want more families to have the same opportunity. “More people can take advantage,” Beth says of The Virginia Home’s expansion plans. “This has been a blessing to our family and to Nicole. “Bob believes the new Home will build on what already makes The Virginia Home so special. “This is a great facility, but the new Home will provide an even greater opportunity for everyone who lives here,” he says. “Having everything on one floor is tremendous.”
He is especially excited about the additional opportunities the expansion will create. “The new facility will have more activities and serve more people with a day program, which is a great idea,” Bob says. “The layout and planning for how they will care for people will enhance the experience.”For the family, supporting The Virginia Home is about helping meet a need they know exists for so many others.
“There is a big segment of people who need this type of facility,” Beth says. “We feel so blessed that our daughter is here, and we would love others to have this opportunity. There is such a need.” Having previously lived in Northern Virginia, they know firsthand how rare a place like The Virginia Home is. “There is nothing up there like this,” Beth says. “We’ve educated a lot of people about The Virginia Home. We are very grateful .”Their gratitude extends to the people who make The Virginia Home feel like home every day.
“The staff is outstanding,” Beth says. “They are wonderful people who care so much. Every time I call and have a question, the nurses don’t hesitate to answer. We are so thankful for all they do.”
